Bill Hollifield

Bill is a Principal Consultant for PAS responsible for the alarm management work processes products, intellectual property, and software product direction. He is a voting member of the ISA SP-18 Alarm Management committee and co-author of The Alarm Management Handbook (and the ISA version of the same book, Alarm Management: Seven Effective Methods for Optimum Performance). Bill has many years of chemical industry experience with focus in project management, chemical production, and DCS control systems.

Bill holds a Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University, and an MBA from the University of Houston. He is a pilot and builds furniture (and the occasional log home in the Ozarks) as a hobby.

Dana Oliver

Dana is a Principal HMI Consultant at PAS. He has multi-company, international experience in all aspects of HMI. At PAS, Dana is responsible for the HMI work processes, intellectual property, and project implementations. He is a voting member of the ISA SP-101 HMI standards committee.

Besides HMI, Dana has 18 years of chemical industry experience with focus in automation, project management, production, and control systems configuration and implementation. Prior to PAS, Dana was the System Engineering Discipline Lead Engineer for Honeywell s Houston engineering center. Prior to Honeywell, Dana was a Production Engineer for Union Carbide Corporation.

Dana holds a Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Ian Nimmo

Ian is President and a founder of User Centered Design Services, an ASM service provider. He served 10 years as a Senior Engineering Fellow and was a founder and Program Director for the ASM Consortium®, Honeywell Industrial Automation & Control. Before joining Honeywell, he worked for 25 years as an instrument/electrical engineer, and computer applications manager for Imperial Chemical Industries in the U.K.

Ian has specialized in computer control safety for over 20 years, and has extensive experience in batch control and continuous operations. He developed the control hazard operability methodology (ChazOp) during his time at ICI and has written over 150 papers and contributed to several books on the subject. Ian studied electrical and electronic engineering at Teesside (U.K.) University and is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, a Senior Member of the ISA, and a member of NSPE.

Eddie Habibi Eddie is the Founder and CEO of Houston-based PAS, an industry leading, world-wide supplier of process automation, alarm management, asset management, and HMI-related products and services. Eddie has an engineering degree from the University of Houston and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, and coauthored The Alarm Management Handbook.

Eddie is a recognized industry thought leader in the areas of critical condition management, automation asset management, alarm management, and operator effectiveness. About the Author
John R. Karsnitz, Ph.D., is professor and chair of the Department of Technological Studies in the College of New Jersey's School of Engineering, where he coordinates the Professional Studies and Technological Design strand. His teaching emphasizes multimedia, architectural, and civil engineering design, as well as technology education, while his primary research interests include technological literacy in general education, pre-engineering, and STEM education. In addition to authoring several textbooks and presenting at many state and regional conferences, Dr. Karsnitz is an active member of several professional organizations. His current affiliations include the International Technology Education Association (ITEA), the Council on Technology Teacher Education (CTTE), the New Jersey Technology Education Association (NJTEA), and the New Jersey Engineering Education Council (NJEEC). Dr. Karsnitz earned B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Millersville University and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

Following a successful career in electrical engineering, in 2006 Stephen O'Brien, Ph.D., joined the faculty of The College of New Jersey, where he is an associate professor of technological studies in the School of Engineering. He also coordinates the Electrical Engineering Design strand and is director of the college's Center for Excellence in STEM Education. His teaching focuses on engineering math, analog circuits, digital electronics, robotics and controls, and advanced engineering design. Dr. O'Brien's scholarly work includes over 40 publications and 13 patents, primarily in the field of optoelectronic devices, as well as frequent presentations at national professional conferences. His research interests include the efficacy of STEM training and education, as well as interdisciplinary work combining humanities, engineering, and technology. He earned a B.S. in math and physics from Western Washington University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Cornell University.

John Hutchinson is an emeritus professor in the Department of Technological Studies at The College of New Jersey. He holds a Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University and has authored books on Design and Problem Solving in Technology and Designing with Pro/DESKTOP. Dr. Hutchinson taught at the high school, community college, and college level for more than 35 years. During his tenure, Dr. Hutchinson worked closely with colleagues from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and other countries in design and technology curriculum development.

About the Author
Marianne Dainton (MA, PhD, The Ohio State University; BA, Villanova University) is a professor of communication at La Salle University in Philadelphia. She teaches communication theory, interpersonal communication, group communication, and organizational communication. Marianne’s research focuses on communication that facilitates relationship maintenance. She has published in Communication Monographs, the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, Family Relations, and Communication Quarterly, among others. She has also published numerous book chapters and is the co-editor (with Daniel Canary) of Maintaining Relationships Through Communication.

Elaine D. Zelley (MA, PhD, The Pennsylvania State University; BA, Ursinus College) is an associate professor of communication at La Salle University in Philadelphia. She teaches communication theory, interpersonal communication, group communication, and communication ethics. Elaine’s research also focuses broadly on the communication of relationship maintenance. She is particularly interested in women’s friendships and the messages used to sustain such relationships. This is a VERY INFORMATIVE book to have. The writers have so much info in here to help guide you through the process of moving and living in the Dominican Republic. We'll be visiting there again this year after 13yrs and we hope it's everything they say it is when we get there. If it is, we will probably move there and become permanent residents. I would highly recommend this book to anyone needing guidance on where to look for the help you may need as an expat to be! :)

I loved this book. It is great for anyone thinking of living, or even just visiting the D.R. My wife is Dominincan and we are currently thinking about purchasing a vacation home their since we go back and forth sooooo much. This book gave me the insight as an expat and what I should expect. I feel well equipped now to begin the process. If you're just thinking about visiting, this book will help as well. You'll find this book has a little bit for everyone. I'm not big on reading, but I couldn't put this one down.

Way more than I expected!!! There are breakdowns of the major cities, the international schools there, hospitals, insurance info, general taxes and more. Even common prices for things like gas, food, property tax, water costs. Written in a very honest way and many pros/cons listed that anyone thinking of moving to the DR should know....and know it from someone who's done it! The authors are not trying to sell you on moving there, only helping you make a very informed decision. BRAVO!!!

Having visited RD many times, Ginnie's insights rang true for me. Book includes many helpful listings with addresses and phone numbers, as well as helpful advice regarding getting a driver's license, temporary residency, and dealing with the bureaucracy.

All I can say is I really wish I had met Ginnie!!!Fantastic book, well done to all involved! With my ongoing journey to live permanently in the DR, this has given me tons and tons of information to help along the way for every situation imaginable. There's even a lot of stuff written that my Dominican husband doesn't know about. I have read and tagged each section a number of times as I know I shall carry this book as my bible as I move around this amazing country. Thank you!
